[:en]In Memory of the Spiritual Poet Mikha’il Na’ima[:ar]في الذكرى الثلاثين لوفاة الكاتب الروحي ميخائيل نعيمة[:]

[:en]At Hoda Shaarawy Theater of Space of Culture, Mikha’il Na’ima‘s poetry salon started in a slightly dark atmosphere that is inspired by Na’ima’s famous verses about death. Rather than standing on stage as usual, the actors, students of Heliopolis University, were sitting among the audience. Then they started walking around, expressively moving or acting bringing Na’ima’s words into life within a nontraditional theatrical setting. Tamer Elgazzar played the role of Na’ima and recited some of his most impressive poems. During this recitation, the actors embodied the words through different lively scenes. Mikha’il Na’ima (1889-1988 Lebanon) was a poet, novelist, and philosopher. He is also called a spiritual writer because of his remarkable writings about death. He had a unique humanitarian approach. Na’ima is considered as one of the most influential figures in the modern Arabic literature. The music was by Sherif Mostafa, lighting system by Mohamed Abdel Mohsen, and the salon was directed by the innovative director Hamada Shousha.    [:ar] بدأ الصالون الشعري لميخائيل نعيمة على مسرح هدى شعراوي في ساحة الثقافة في أجواء قاتمة بعض الشيء مستوحاة من أبياته الشعرية عن الموت. وبدلاً من الوقوف على خشبة المسرح كالمعتاد، جلس المشاركون في العمل من طلاب جامعة هليوبوليس بين الجمهور. ثم بدأوا بالتجول داخل القاعة و القيام بحركات تعبيرية بعثت الحياة في كلمات وأشعار نعيمة التي جرت على ألسنتهم في إطار مسرحي غير تقليدي. لعب تامر الجزار دور نعيمة وقرأ بعض من أشعاره الرائعة. وفي أثناء قراءته، جسّد الممثلون الكلمات من خلال مشاهد مختلفة تنبض بالحياة. كان ميخائيل نعيمة (١٨٨٩-١٩٨٨ لبنان) شاعرا وروائيا وفيلسوفا. وقد أطلق عليه الكاتب الروحي بسبب كتاباته الرائعة عن الموت. كان لديه نهج إنساني فريد من نوعه. يعد نعيمة من أكثر الشخصيات تأثيرا في الأدب العربي الحديث. لديه ٩٩ من المؤلفات منها الدراما والمقالات والشعر والنقد والقصص القصيرة والسير الذاتية. ومن أشهر كتبه هو “مرداد”، وهو نص صوفي نشر لأول مرة في لبنان عام ١٩٤٨. شارك في تأسيس” الرابطة القلمية” وهي جمعية أدبية في نيويورك مع خليل جبران وغيره. موسيقى العرض كانت من تأليف شريف مصطفى والإضاءة لمحمد عبد المحسن والعمل للمخرج المبدع حمادة شوشة. [:en]The Space of Culture at Heliopolis University in cooperation with the Center for Arab West Understanding hosted HE Amr Moussa, former Ambassador, Minister, and Secretary General of the League of Arab States (LAS) and the Dutch Ambassador in Cairo Mr. Laurens Westhoff. The event started with a short speech by Mr. Helmy Abouleish, Chairman of the Board of Trustees about the university’s educational vision and how it would contribute to a sustainable future for Egypt. He also mentioned that the university’s philosophy is based on SEKEM Initiative that was founded by his father, Dr. Ibrahim Abouleish.     Then Dr. Cornelis Hulsman, the Academic Supervisor for Center for Arab West Understanding Internship Program introduced the center as the largest internship provider in Egypt. “We are a non-governmental organization that aims at connecting students from all over the world through internship programs. We believe that intercultural dialogue is the only way to close the gap between the Arabs and the West.” The Center encourages intercultural dialogue not only through internship programs, but also through academic publishing. It has recently published two books titled: “From Ruling to Opposition, Islamist Movements and Non-Islamist Groups in Egypt,” and “The 2014 Egyptian Constitution Perspectives from Egypt.” Both books present divergent perspectives about social and political life in Egypt.   After the presentation, Mr. Helmy Abouleish and Drs. Cornelis Hulsman signed a Memorandum of Understanding between Heliopolis University and CAWU to enhance internship programs for Heliopolis University students. Then, the Dutch Ambassador emphasized that such initiatives and programs are extremely important as people from different cultures and religions will meet and talk. Students will go back to their countries telling true stories about Egypt; they will be ambassadors of peace. Finally, in an open discussion with the university students, HE Moussa said that he believes that the young generations will make wonders for the future in Egypt. [:en]Beit El Hekma or The House of Wisdom was a major intellectual institution during the Islamic Golden Age. It was founded by Caliph Harun al-Rashid as a small library and then was formally established by his son Al-Ma’mun. Based in Baghdad, it was a meeting point for many well-known scholars with Muslim, Christian, and Jewish backgrounds to share information, ideas, and culture. Beside translating books into Arabic and preserving them, scholars of the House of Wisdom made many remarkable original contributions to diverse fields. By the middle of the ninth century, the House of Wisdom had the largest selection of books in the world. To revive this vision of diversity, Heliopolis University produces a series of performances celebrating the Arabic cultural heritage, especially poetry. The main goal is to preserve and keep alive the Arabic poetry – one of the greatest in the world and make Arabic poets’ verses everlasting through marking their anniversaries and preparing poetic plays and poetry salons.[:ar] كان بيت الحكمة مؤسسة فكرية غاية في الأهمية خلال العصر الذهبي الإسلامي. أسسه الخليفة هارون الرشيد كمكتبة صغيرة ثم تم إنشاؤه رسمياً من قبل ابنه المأمون. كان مقره في بغداد وكان نقطة التقاء لكثير من العلماء المعروفين القادمين من مختلف الثقافات الإسلامية والمسيحية واليهودية لتبادل المعلومات والأفكار. إلى جانب ترجمة الكتب إلى اللغة العربية وحفظها ، قدم علماء دار الحكمة مؤلفات كثيرة رائعة في مجالات متنوعة. وبحلول منتصف القرن التاسع ، كان لدى دار الحكمة أكبر مجموعة من الكتب في العالم. [:en]With her shiny smile, Masha Dimitri showed up on the stage of Ibrahim Abouleish Theater busy setting up her slack wire. From the very first moment, she could capture the attention of her audience with her magical style of story-telling. She could connect the first story with the last one through exciting incidents and breakneck acrobatic performance on the slack wire. Born in 1964, the Swiss artist started her professional artistic education at the age of 15 at the National Circus School in Budapest, with the slack wire as her area of specialization. After two years, she transferred to the Scuola Teatro Dimitri where she studied theater and continued her training on the slack wire under the guidance of Szilard Székely. [:ar] بابتسامة لامعة ، ظهرت ماشا ديميتري على خشبة مسرح إبراهيم أبو العيش مشغولة بإعداد مسرحها الإستعراضي. منذ اللحظة الأولى ، استطاعت جذب انتباه جمهورها بأسلوبها السحري في رواية القصص. استطاعت ربط القصة الأولى بالآخيرة من خلال أحداث مثيرة وأداء بهلواني رائع على الحبل المتراخي. ولدت ماشا ديميتري في عام ١٩٦٤ وبدأت تعليمها الفني في سن الخامسة عشر في مدرسة السيرك الوطني في بودابست واختارت السير على السلك المتراخي مجالا لاحترافها. بعد عامين، انتقلت إلى مسرح سكولا تياترو ديميتري حيث درست المسرح واستمرت في التدريب على السلك المتراخي تحت إشراف زيلارد زيكيلي.     [:]

[:en]How university would look like in the future? How can education be sustainable? What is the role of arts in education? These questions together with many others were deeply discussed during Professor da Veiga’s meeting with Heliopolis University students. Prof. Dr. Marcelo da Veiga is a Professor of Philosophy and Social Innovation and the Director of the Institute for Philosophy and Aesthetics in Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences. He was the Founding President of the same university (2002-2017). His areas of expertise include social entrepreneurship and philosophy of social innovation, ethics of business, social impact of digitization, block-chain technology, and management in higher education. Professor da Veiga explained that sustainable education is mainly self-education that learners seek after understanding the whole question and identify the needs. To be sustainable, education should not be pursued for economic purposes and market needs only as they are always changing. Students should decide how they want to contribute to life driven by their passion. [:ar] كيف ستبدو الجامعة في المستقبل؟ كيف يمكن أن يكون التعليم مستدامًا؟ ما هو دور الفنون في التعليم؟ هذه الأسئلة وغيرها الكثير مما تم طرحه خلال النقاش المفتوح مع دكتور مارسيلو دا فيجا مع طلاب جامعة هليوبوليس. دكتور دا فيجا هو أستاذ الفلسفة والإبداع الاجتماعي ومدير معهد الفلسفة وعلم الجمال. وهو مؤسس جامعة ألانوس للفنون والعلوم الاجتماعية وكان رئيسا لها بين عامي ٢٠٠٢- ٢٠١٧. تشمل مجالات خبرته ريادة الأعمال الإجتماعية وفلسفة الابتكار الاجتماعي وأخلاقيات الأعمال والأثر الاجتماعي للترقيم وتكنولوجيا سلسلة الكتل وفن الإدارة في التعليم العالي. وأوضح الدكتور دا فيغا أن التعليم المستدام هو في الأساس تعليم ذاتي يسعى إليه المتعلمون بعد استيعاب مايدور حولهم وتحديد احتياجاتهم. ولكي يكون التعليم مستداما، يجب ألا يكون الهدف وراء اكتساب العلوم أغراض إقتصادية أوتبعا لاحتياجات سوق العمل فقط لأنها تتغير باستمرار. يجب أن يقرر الطلاب أولاً كيف سيكون شكل إسهاماتهم في الحياة التي يعيشونها يدفعهم الشغف للحصول على المزيد. [:en]The performance is one of a series that Beit El Hekma of Space of Culture is organizing to celebrate the Arabic poetry and its prominent figures like Nazik al-Malai’ka, Gibran Khalil Gibran, Mikha’il Na’ima, and others. This time it tells the story of the brightest stars of the Arabic poetry, the Star of Baghdad Nazik al- Malai’ka (1923-2007).   The curtains open with young Nazik telling the audience her life story and about the painful moment that has driven her to start writing free verse that was later called “Modern Arabic Poetry”. At the background, the spirit of deceased Nazik was watching over her own life experience. This portrayed a picture to the audience to reflect on life and death and to feel the tortured soul of Nazik. This remarkable performance ends with a scene of a poetry salon. The salon that only existed in Nazik’s imagination where she invited her friends, the poets and writers from all over the world for tea, talking to them and listening to their verses in complete silence . The idea, text compilation and direction of the play were professionally performed by Dorothea Walter. Marwa Samir, Business student at Heliopolis University played the role of Nazik in cooperation with Nourhan Said, Maher Elhaggar, Noha Hussein, and students from Heliopolis University.      [:ar] يعد العرض ضمن سلسلة من العروض التي ينظمها بيت الحكمة للاحتفال بالشعر العربي وشخصياته البارزة مثل نازك الملائكة وجبران خليل جبران وميخائيل نعيمة وآخرين. هذه المرة يحكي قصة ألمع النجوم في الشعر العربي نجمة بغداد نازك الملائكة (١٩٢٣–٢٠٠٧).   يفتح الستار على نازك الشابة وهي تروي للحاضرين قصة حياتها وبوتحكي عن اللحظة المؤلمة التي دفعتها إلى البدء في كتابة الشعر الحر الذي أطلق عليه لاحقاً “الشعر العربي الحديث”. في خلفية المسرح تحوم روح نازك المتوفية والتي تنظر عن كثب الى تجربة حياتها الخاصة. هذا قدًم صورة للجمهور للتأمل في الحياة والموت والشعور بروح نازك المُعذبة. وينتهي هذا العرض الرائع بمشهد لصالون شعر. صالون الشعر الذي كان موجوداً في خيال نازك فقط حيث كانت تدعوا أصدقاءها من الشعراء والكتاب من جميع أنحاء العالم لتناول الشاي والتحدث إليهم والاستماع إلى أشعارهم في صمت تام. الفكرة والإخراج للمخرجة الفنانة دوروتيا فالتر. لعبت مروة سمير – طالبة في كلية إدارة الأعمال بجامعة هليوبوليس – دور نازك الملائكة بالإشتراك مع ماهر الحجار ونورهان سعيد ونهى حسين وطلبة من جامعة هليوبوليس. [:en]As words can speak like roses, the guests of the Eurythmy performance were welcomed by Martina Dinkel the Director with a red rose. She then introduced the show to be an embodiment of how words can be a magical world of imagination. [wonderplugin_slider id=1]   The performance started with a movement accompanied by music of Nuri El Ruheibany which visualized the power of words. The second one came along the pleasant words of Nazik Al-Malaika: Why do we fear words when they have been rose-palmed hands, fragrant, passing gently over our cheeks, and glasses of heartening wine sipped, one summer, by thirsty lips? The following two shows were joined by music of Abu Bakr Khairat and Stephen Simon and the last movement was a wonderful illustration of Khalil Gibran’s poem about the sea and how humans and nature can harmoniously interact. It portrayed the consistency between human goals and the surrounding environment which is the true meaning of sustainable development.[:ar] كما يمكن للكلمات أن تتحدث مثل الورود ، استقبلت مارتينا دينكل مخرجة العمل ضيوف عرض اليوريثمي بوردة حمراء. ثم تحدثت عن العرض كونه تجسيدا لكيفية أن تكون الكلمات عالماً سحرياً من الخيال. [wonderplugin_slider id=1]   بدأ العرض بحركة مصحوبة بموسيقى نوري الرحيباني التي صورت قوة الكلمات. ثم جاء العرض الثاني مع كلمات من شعر نازك الملائكة: فيمَ نخشَى الكلماتْ وهي أحيانًا أكفٌّ من ورودِ بارداتِ العِطْرِ مرّتْ عذْبةً فوق خدودِ وهي أحيانًا كؤوسٌ من رحيقٍ مُنْعِشِ رشَفَتْها, ذاتَ صيفٍ, شَفةٌ في عَطَش عزفت موسيقى أبو بكر خيرت وستيفن سيمون مع العرضين التاليين وكان العرض الأخير تصويراً رائعاً  لقصيدة خليل جبران حول البحر وكيف يمكن أن يتفاعل البشر والطبيعة بشكل متناغم. و قد صوَََر الاتساق بين الأهداف الإنسانية والبيئة المحيطة التي هي المعنى الحقيقي للتنمية المستدامة. [:en]With touching verses from Salah Jahin’s Ruba’iyat (Quatrains), Do’souqa started their musical performance on the stage of Ibrahim Abouleish Theater. Do’souqa is an Egyptian Indie folk music band. The Indie Folk is a musical genre that began gradually building a captive audience among music listeners since 2000. Armed with acoustic guitars, thrilling drums, and eloquent lyrics, the four band artists: Luka, Amr Ismael, Khaled El-Demerdash, and Michael Yehia could thrill their audience who shared them their wild songs and music. [:ar] بدأت فرقة دعسوقة أغنياتها على خشبة مسرح إبراهيم أبوالعيش بكلمات رائعة من رباعيات صلاح جاهين.  دعسوقة فرقة موسيقية مصرية تتغنى الألحان الفلكلورية من طراز اندي فولك وهو نوع موسيقي بدأ تدريجياً في جذب محبي الموسيقى منذ عام ٢٠٠٠ استطاع أعضاء فرقة دعسوقة الأربعة وهم المطربة لوكا وعمرو اسماعيل وخالد الدمرداش ومايكل يحيى إثارة حماس جمهورهم الذين شاركوهم أغانيهم  الصاخبة. وقد تميزت أغانيهم بكلماتها البسيطة وأنغام الجيتار العالية [:]

[:en]Again, orient and occident music meet at the “Space of Culture”. This time was during a concert of “Farsha”, the student band of Heliopolis University for Sustainable Development. The young band performed their first gig at the campus in the framework of opening the new “Space Playground”. “Farsha is named after a cafe in Sharm El-Sheikh”, one of the band members announced in the beginning of the concert. “There, we found our band is resembled in the mix of its traditional Bedouin decorations and the modern electro music playing in the background.” The student band sang and played cover versions of popular songs in their own fashion – in which the Tabla, as a traditional instrument, created a delightful rhythm combined with electric guitars. Especially unique was the rap song that the band has written and composed. “Farsha” presented their song as a surprise to their colleagues, who attended the concert next to SEKEMs managers and employees. On the occasion of opening the “Space Playground”, the students of Heliopolis University had also spent together an interactive sports day full of competitions. Noha Hussein Opening the “Space of Culture” Cairo Celebration Choir at “Space of Culture” [:ar] مرة أخرى، تلتقي الموسيقى الشرقية بالغربية في “ساحة الثقافة“، وهذه المرة كان الحفل الموسيقي لفرقة “فَرشة” من طلاب جامعة هليوبوليس للتنمية المستدامة، حيث قدمت الفرقة الشابة أول حفل لها في الحرم الجامعي في إطار فعاليات افتتاح “ملعب الساحة” الجديد. “وجاء اسم “فَرشة” نسبة إلى مقهى في شرم الشيخ”، هكذا صرّح أحد أعضاء الفرقة في بداية الحفل. وأضاف موضحًا: “فقد وجدنا ذاك المقهى يشبه الفرقة بما لديه من الديكورات التقليدية البدوية مع خلفية موسيقية من أنغام  الإلكترو الحديثة.” قدمت فرقة الطلاب معزوفات وأغنيات مشهورة ولكن بأدائهم الخاص – إيقاع الطبلة الشرقي مع موسيقى الجيتار الكهربائي (الإلكتريك). وما كان مميزًا بشكل خاص هي أغنية الراب التي قدمتها فرقة الطلاب من تأليفهم وألحانهم . قدمت فَرشة الأغنية بمثابة مفاجأة لزملائهم، الذين حضروا الحفل مع مديري سيكم وموظفيها. وبمناسبة افتتاح “ملعب الساحة”، قضى طلاب جامعة هليوبوليس معًا يومًا رياضيًا تفاعلي مليء بالمسابقات الحماسية. نهى حسين افتتاح ساحة الثقافة كورال القاهرة الاحتفالي في “ساحة الثقافة” [:]

[:en]When people with different cultural backgrounds come together to sing in a choir and reflect their passion in music, harmony intercultural is created – especially if they have an enlightened maestro. That’s what Cairo Celebration Choir and its conductor Nayer Nagui reflected last night in their concert at “Space of Culture”. During the concert, Nayer Nagui, the musical director and founder of the choir, highlighted how harmony rises out of diversity: the chorus sang songs from the Egyptian father of folklore, Sayed Darwish, accompanied by classical melodies. In addition, they presented delightful operettas and solos, performed by members of the choir. Among the audience were students from Heliopolis University, as well as employees from SEKEM, who came together with their friends and family members, to spend a unique musical evening with the Cairo Celebration Choir, which most of them knew already quite well. The choir considers SEKEM a companion since its early beginnings in 2000. Hence, the choir performed for instance on the occasion of the 80th birthday of SEKEM Founder Dr. Ibrahim, last March. Noha Hussein Space of Culture Portraits of the Future by Lina Osama at the Space of Cultures [:ar]عندما يجتمع ناس ذوو خلفيات ثقافية مختلفة في كورالٍ للغناء والتعبير عن شغفهم بالموسيقى، يُخلق التناغم الثقافي – وخاصة إذا كان لديهم مايسترو مثقف ومستنير. هذا هو ما قدمه بالفعل كورال القاهرة الاحتفالي جوقة مع قائده المايسترو ناير ناجي في الليلة الماضية في حفلة موسيقية مميزة أقيمت في “ساحة الثقافة“. وأثناء الحفل الموسيقي، ألقى المايسترو والمؤسس للكورال، ناير ناجي الضوء على كيفية سطوع التناغم من قلب التنوع: فقد شدى الكورال أغنيات من التراث المصري لسيد درويش بمرافقة ألحان كلاسيكية، هذا بالإضافة إلى الأوبريت والأغنيات المنفردة المبهجة التي قدمها بعض أعضاء الفرقة. وكان من ضمن الحضور طلاب جامعة هليوبوليس، وكذلك العاملين من سيكم، الذي جاءوا مع أصدقائهم وأفراد عائلاتهم، لقضاء أمسية موسيقية فريدة من نوعها مع كورال القاهرة الاحتفالي الذي يعرفه معظمهم مسبقا بشكل جيد. يعتبر الكورال مبادرة سيكم رفيقة له منذ بداياته الأولى في عام 2000. وعلى سبيل المثال قدم الكورال احتفال لا ينسى بمناسبة عيد الميلاد الـ80 لمؤسس سيكم الدكتور إبراهيم أبوالعيش في مارس الماضي. نهى حسين ساحة الثقافة صور عن المستقبل بريشة لينا أسامة في ساحة الثقافة  [:]
