[:en]2018 Graduation Projects: Adolescent Behavior in Drug Use [:ar]مشاريع تخرج ٢٠١٨: سوء استخدام المراهقين للأدوية[:]

[:en] Self-medication has recently emerged as a social phenomenon in Egypt especially among adolescents. That is why Pharmacy senior students decided to explore about this currently persistent problem that has great negative physical and psychological impact on college students. The main objective of their study was to evaluate the knowledge, attitude and behavior of the Egyptian college students who have medical and non-medical backgrounds in relation to drug use. Their cross-sectional observational study was done on around 500 college students using a validated survey to investigate their drug use. “We noticed this bad phenomenon among our family members, friends, and also our colleagues,” says Marianne Gamal, one of the project team members. “Due to the physiological and psychological changes the adolescents go through at this age, drug abuse is more common among them. They tend to be independent and resist any external advice”. The study was done on 503 college students. 309 of them are females and 187 males. 332 have medical background and 171 have not. The age of participants ranged from 18 to 24 years old and the average was 21. We discovered that drug abuse by adolescents is not only of over-the-counter drugs but also drugs that need prescriptions such as antibiotics. The study results show that drug misuse by adolescents is a developing problem and has negative impact on their health and in sometimes it may take the form of drug dependence. Different development stages of adolescents can affect significantly their behavior to make certain decisions regarding drug use. “Unfortunately, their decisions depend on information from non-specialized sources such as various media channels, friends, family members, etc. We suggest issuing more restrictions on drug use. Also, extended awareness campaigns should be launched.” Says Marianne “Adolescents should understand that they harm others as well, not only themselves. Misusing or overusing antibiotics in specific cause antibiotic resistance by several bacterial infections  … Instead of improving our health, drugs can severely harm it if we misuse them” The project was tackled by Marianne Gamal, Menna Abdel Aziz, Mona Zakaria, and Eman Abdelhameed under supervision of Dr. Manal Hamed, Professor of Clinical Pharmacy and Head of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacy Practice.[:ar] انتشر التداوي الذاتي مؤخراً كظاهرة اجتماعية خطيرة في مصر خاصة بين المراهقين. هذا مما دفع طلاب السنة النهائية بكلية الصيدلة إلى البحث في هذه المشكلة الملحة والتي تؤثر تأثيراً سلبياً على الصحة البدنية والنفسية على طلاب الجامعات. كان الهدف الرئيسي وراء مشروعهم هو تقييم درجة الوعي والسلوك لدى طلاب الكليات المصرية ذوي الخلفيات الطبية وغيرهم فيما يتعلق بطريقة تعاطيهم للأدوية المختلفة. وقد قاموا بإجراء دراستهم الرصدية التي شملت عدة نواحي للمشكلة على حوالي ٥٠٠ طالب جامعي باستخدام دراسة استقصائية للتحقق من طبيعة تعاملهم مع المستحضرات الدوائية. تقول ماريان جمال أحد أعضاء فريق المشروع  “لقد لاحظنا انتشار هذه الظاهرة السيئة بين أفراد عائلتنا وأصدقائنا ، وكذلك زملائنا في الجامعة. فهي أكثر شيوعاً بين  المراهقين في هذا العمر بسبب التغيرات الفسيولوجية والنفسية التي يمرون بها. فهم لا يقبلون النصيحة والتوجيه ويعتبرون هذا الأمر حرية شخصية واستقلالية في القرار “. وقد أجريت الدراسة على ٥٠٣ طالب جامعي. منهم ٣٠٩ من الإناث و ١٨٧ من الذكور. ٣٣٢ ذوو خلفية طبية و ١٧١ ليس لديهم أي معلومات طبية. تراوح عمر المشاركين بين ١٨ و ٢٤ عامًا وكان المتوسط ​​٢١ عامًا. وتم الوصول إلى أن الأدوية التي يستخدمها المراهقون لا تقتصر على العقاقير التي لا تستلزم وصفة طبية فحسب ، بل أيضًا العقاقير التي تحتاج إلى وصفات طبية مثل المضادات الحيوية. وأظهرت نتائج الدراسة أن إساءة استعمال الأدوية من قبل المراهقين هي مشكلة متزايدة ولها تأثير سلبي على صحتهم ، وفي بعض الأحيان قد تتخذ شكل الاعتماد التام والكلي على الأدوية. كما أن مراحل التغير التي يمر بها المراهقون لها تأثير كبير على سلوكهم مما يدفعهم إلى اتخاذ قرارات معينة بشأن طريقة استعمالهم للأدوية. تقول ماريان جمال “للأسف تعتمد قراراتهم على معلومات من مصادر غير متخصصة مثل وسائل الإعلام المختلفة والأصدقاء وأفراد من العائلة ، إلخ. ولذلك اقترحنا إصدار المزيد من القوانين التي تحدد استخدام الأدوية. كما ينبغي إطلاق حملات موسعة للتوعية بالأخطار” يجب أن يتفهم المراهقون أنهم يؤذون الآخرين أيضًا وليس أنفسهم فقط. إن إساءة استخدام المضادات الحيوية على وجه الخصوص أو الإفراط في استخدامها يؤدي إلى مقاومة الجسم لها وتصبح غير فعالة في محاربة العديد من أنواع العدوى البكتيرية … وبدلاً أن تقوم الأدوية بدورها في تحسين صحتنا فإنها تكون مصدر ضرر بالغ لها .” قام بالعمل على المشروع طلبة السنة النهائية: ماريان جمال ومنة عبد العزيز ومنى زكريا وإيمان عبد الحميد تحت إشراف د. منال حامد أستاذ الصيدلة الإكلينيكية ورئيس قسم الصيدلة الإكلينيكية والممارسة الصيدلانية. [:en] [wonderplugin_slider id=15]   Heliopolis University Pharmacy student, Youssry Elsawy and his group won the first place in the “Pharmaceutical Marketing Skills” competition that was held during the 64th International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation World Congress from July 30 – August 8, 2018 in Mendoza, Argentina. International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation (IPSF) is a leading international advocacy organization for pharmacy students with the aim to promote improved public health. IPSF was founded in 1949 and now includes around 350,000 pharmacy students from 80 countries worldwide. As an active IPSF member, Elsawy was invited to participate in IPSF World Congress this year. Elsawy has been a member of the Egyptian Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation (EPSF) for three years. He participated in a number of its activities and events and was selected as an Event Coordinator. In 2017, he was selected to join the External Relations Committee of IPSF that is responsible for enhancing and promoting communication between IPSF and its strategic partners like the World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP). “I only had two weeks to be ready for the competition. I had to form a group of other three IPSF members, come up with a new creative idea and present it to the congress. That was really hard but I decided to compete.” Youssry Elsawy Elsawy was the youngest participant in the competition and the first Egyptian to win the first place as well. “I consider this as my greatest achievement till now,” said Elsawy “and I am grateful to my university for granting me the opportunity to participate in the congress.”  Heliopolis University will always be proud to have students like Elsawy and will keep empowering its students to achieve their educational goals by supporting them academically and financially.[:ar] [wonderplugin_slider id=15]   فاز يسري الصاوي طالب الفرقة الرابعة بكلية الصيدلة جامعة هليوبوليس وفريقه بالمركز الأول في مسابقة مهارات تسويق المنتجات الصيدلانية والتي أقيمت ضمن فعاليات الدورة الرابعة والستين للمؤتمر الدولي للاتحاد العالمي لطلاب الصيدلة والذي أقيم في مدينة ميندوزا بالأرجنتين ما بين ٣٠ يوليو و ٨ أغسطس الماضي. يعد الاتحاد العالمي لطلاب الصيدلة (IPSF) إحدى المنظمات الدولية الرائدة في مجال دعم ومساندة طلاب الصيدلة حول العالم بهدف تعزيز وتحسين الصحة العامة للشعوب في جميع أركان الأرض. تأسست المنظمة في عام ١٩٤٩ وتضم حالياً حوالي ٣٥٠٫٠٠٠ طالب صيدلي من ٨٠ دولة حول العالم. وكعضو نشط في منظمة IPSF ، تم دعوة الصاوي للمشاركة في المؤتمر العالمي  للمنظمة هذا العام. والجدير بالذكر أن الصاوي عضو أيضاً في الاتحاد المصري لطلبة الصيدلة (EPSF) منذ حوالي ثلاث سنوات. وقد شارك في العديد من أنشطة وفعاليات الاتحاد وتم اختياره كمنسق للفعاليات. وفي عام ٢٠١٧ تم اختياره للانضمام إلى لجنة العلاقات الخارجية في منظمة IPSF والمخول لها تعزيز وتنمية التواصل بين المنظمة وشركائها الإستراتيجيين مثل منظمة الصحة العالمية (WHO) ومنظمة الأمم المتحدة للتربية والعلوم والثقافة (UNESCO) ، والاتحاد الدولي للصيدلة (FIP). يقول الصاوي “لم يكن لدي سوى أسبوعان لأكون مستعداً للمسابقة. كان عليَّ تشكيل مجموعة من ثلاثة أعضاء آخرين في IPSF والتوصل إلى فكرة مبتكرة جديدة وتقديمها إلى المؤتمر. كان ذلك في غاية الصعوبةنظراً لضيق الوقت، لكنني قررت أن أقبل التحدي”. كان الصاوي أصغر المشاركين في المسابقة وأول مصري يفوز بالمركز الأول أيضاً. يقول الصاوي “أنا أعتبر هذا أعظم إنجاز لي حتى الآن. وأنا ممتن للغاية لجامعتي جامعة هليوبوليس لمنحي الفرصة للمشاركة في هذا المؤتمر”. ولجامعة هليوبوليس كل الفخر أن يكون لديها طلاب مثل يسري الصاوي وسوف تستمر في تمكين طلابها ومساندتهم من خلال توفير الدعم الأكاديمي والعلمي والمادي لتحقيق أهدافهم. [:en] The fifth-year Pharmacy student Engy Hossam El-Din at Heliopolis University won the first place in lightweight women’s single sculls at the National Rowing Championship of universities. Forty five public and private universities participated in this championship. Engy started rowing since she was ten years old. She was the first Egyptian rower to join London Olympics in 2012 for lightweight women’s double sculls. She participated in many national and international championships during the last few years. She won the gold medal at the African Championship five times and seven times at the Arab Championships. She also won the National Championship more than ten times.[:ar] فازت الطالبة إنجي حسام الدين الطالبة بالفرقة الخامسة بكلية الصيدلة جامعة هليوبوليس ببطولة الجمهورية للجامعات في رياضة التجديف وحصلت على المركز الأول في سباق فردى مزدوج المجداف (سكيف طالبات) حيث شارك في البطولة ٤٥ جامعة حكومية وخاصة. تمارس انجي رياضة التجديف منذ عشر سنوات فهي أول لاعبة مصرية تتأهل للاولمبياد (لندن ٢٠١٢) في القارب الزوجي خفيف الوزن. شاركت في العديد من البطولات المحلية و الدولية خلال السنوات الأخيرة، حيث فازت بالميدالية الذهبية في البطولة الإفريقية خمس مرات و في البطولة العربية سبع مرات كما فازت ببطولة الجمهورية أكثر من عشر مرات . [:en]Dr. Ahmed Taha Ayoub, researcher at the University of Heliopolis for Sustainable Development, received the Best Research Presentation Award from Dr. Mustafa El Sayed, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zewail University, at the 4th International Conference on Pharmaceutical Sciences. The conference aims to create a platform for exchange of ideas, an opportunity to strengthen relations between senior pharmacists and doctors, to present modern medical and scientific discoveries, and to research and new therapeutic drugs. Dr. Mustafa Al Sayed, awarded the shield of excellence to Dr. Ahmed Taha Ayoub, in honor of his research efforts which contribute to the treatment of cancer. Dr. Ahmed Ayoub received first place at the level of the Republic in high school in 2003, and received his doctorate from the University of Alberta, Canada, and received many scholarships from several universities. The conference was attended by more than 50 scientists from all over the world from the United States, England, France, Germany, Ireland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Brazil and Turkey.
